Harmony House: A Start
Hello! Welcome to our Summit Project Blog! This year, our summit group will be working with Harmony House, the largest domestic violence shelter in Missouri, the only one in Springfield, MO. This is a place for all victims of domestic violence to turn to for short term shelter while escaping their abuser. Harmony House houses up to 172 residents at a time. They house men, women, and children. At Harmony House, the residents work with a social worker and a case worker to find a job and housing as well as to learn skills to take into the world. The House aims at getting the residents ready for their next chapter in their life without their abuser.
Our project is a Parent's Night Out. For this, we are organizing and orchestrating movie nights for the adults and childcare for the kids. On September 29, We had our first movie night. We played Mean Girls for the adults and Moana for the kids. The kids liked playing in the childcare room and coloring and the women liked having the opportunity to be away from the kids for a while.
We are super excited to help Harmony House and to have the opportunity to spread awareness of domestic violence to the Springfield area. Greene County has the highest rate of domestic violence in the state of Missouri and Harmony House is here to help.
