We did it!
We did it!! Our final activity night was held on April 20 and we watched “The Blind Side.”
We had four women show up to watch our movie which was pretty average attendance-wise. We continued to provide childcare and by this point we had really bonded with the children because a lot of their moms had attended movie nights in the past. While this was not planned, we think it aided in the success of the events because the kids grew to trust us. Domestic violence destroys trust and we were able to bring a little bit of trust back into their lives through our continuous work with Harmony House.
The women really enjoyed the movie (we’re pretty sure everyone was crying at one point or another, even us). We also got to talk with the residents throughout the move and it was really great to catch up with them.
Throughout the course of our year long project we’ve learned a lot about domestic violence and the impact it can have on families. While we won’t be a part of Summit anymore we want to stay connected with Harmony House. In fact, Taylor and Megan ran in Alpha Chi Omega at Missouri State’s 5K in support of Harmony House last weekend. Harmony House has been able to positively impact the community in so many ways and we want to continue to support their work.
